MARCHEN PANORAMA - LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD & SNOW WHITE - A. SALA, GERMANY 1900

Narrated by Ellen Rubin

This toy theater by A[dolf] Salas Company, circa 1900, shows the stories, Little Red Ridinghood and Snow White in myriopticon style. A lithographed color scroll behind the celluloid screen tells the stories. A metal winder turns the scroll, and wonderfully, music plays while the story is told. A separate marque keeps the stage doors open showing the youthful audience and musicians in the orchestra pit. With the theater, is a paper booklet telling the stories frame by frame. I happened to find a Berlin TV station talking about the theater but I believe it was a newer edition. It is without the celluloid screen and music and a different AS logo. The booklet appears to have cardstock covers not paper. https://youtu.be/U7JE2-IH8eI The newer theater appears to scroll smoothly and the images are clearer without the screen. Most likely, these were changed for budgetary reasons. The video here, by The Popuplady, has its drawbacks, but what a surprise when she heard the music which wasn't described in the auction notes. Enjoy!
